Dracula Nap Defense
“Found footage” was the optional theme for this game jam. Initially, our team had been talking about making a SAW-like game with the PC posted at a surveillance monitor killing off invading NPCs. But we only had 2 weeks to make this game, and we kind of wanted something light-hearted, maybe even cute. So, I suggested this concept: “You’re Dracula’s thrall, and you’re setting up traps to protect him from invading hunters while he sleeps.” We went with it.
We worked together to flesh the concept out and develop the aesthetic, and then I got to writing. It was unclear what narrative elements we’d be able to include in the allotted time, so I wrote everything we’d talked about wanting in the game, just in case.
Below is the document I created for us, mapping out the Itch.io game page, narrative synopsis, in-game dialogue, barks, item descriptions, and character bios. Overall, this took me about two hours without tweaks.
